Blocking - Willow
Often containing colour and other unique features, Willow is a medium to hard wood. Heartwood is a reddish or greyish brown, sometimes with darker streaks. The sapwood is white to tan, and isn’t always clearly or sharply demarcated from heartwood. Willow usually has an interlocked or irregular grain with a medium to fine uniform texture. Specific gravity 0.36, Janka Hardness 430, salix nigra.
Harder than Englemann Spruce, but heavier as well. Sawn and sold by the pound. Pieces are random sized. Minimum length approximately 6”, width approximately 6”, thickness approximately 2”. A minimum of ten pounds per order.
Willow Tonewood Grades
Grading of tone wood is very subjective to the eye and experience of the grader. The grade description below attempts to capture the major characteristics involved in assessing the soundboards and will be used as a guide.
Grade: Sawn flat or vertical grain depending on product, no knots or other defects.
