Falling up the Goat - Rebuilding the Old Cable Car

Welcome to the Goat River Cable Car. It's getting some work done. I'm out here helping out with the project and some danger trees need to be felled.

The Upper Goat largely follows the 1886 route miners used to travel from the upper Fraser River to the Barkerville gold fields. Today it connects to the Fraser River near Crescent Spur.

Among the many river crossings is small cable car that allows hikers to cross the goat itself during low water and at their own risk, which turns out is the reason I got the invite in the first place. The cable car is in need of some modern engineering and a new mainline.

Initially I was invited to participate is some good old fashioned mining. but as we tunnelled for bed rock one thing led to another and I ended up coming back for a couple days of danger tree removal which would be needed before any helicopter work could commence.

While the hike with a chainsaw on my back might have made me temporarily regret my decision, it was nice to flex skills I hadn't used in a while. And this is now one of my favourite work locations.
